Found out many folks do not dig him based on the thread last week. Well, Sirius is handing over the dead airwaves to celebrity dj's to play dead songs and reflect. First guest dj.....Jimmy Buffett. Starts July 1 I think.

Buffett's not ever going to be my first (or second, or third) choice when I want to listen to music. But, his shows are a good time and he's obviously doing something right, since he's consistently one of the top ranked performers in the U.S.

I don't understand the animosity about Jimmy Buffett. He always wrote good songs, he never tried to go mainstream by doing music videos and such, and seems to have made a career based on talent. He's done some nice collaborations and even covered a couple Dead songs, Scarlet Begonias and Uncle John's Band.
I ran into Jimmy on a beach back in 1980 or '81 and I was trying to learn guitar. Jimmy came over and gave me some good advice and played my favorite Jimmy Buffett song "A Pirate Looks At 40" for me on my guitar. He never admitted he was Jimmy Buffett although I knew who he was anyway. He gave me a lame story that he was a former songwriter for the Monkees, which I found quite amusing. He seemed like good people for what its worth.

Jimmy dedicated this one to Jerry Garcia: Ripping version of Scarlet Begonias:

I don't get all the Buffett hating either- it's fine not to like him, but smug Deadheads who really go out of their way shit on him and his "Parotheads" when they're not busy masturbating all all over themselves about how great Jerry was or wiping away tears about how beautiful what the fuck ever the band played at some show thirty fucking years ago was make the whole Dead scene look ridiculous.
